For the May new moon, we're exploring the Fifth Remembering:

ATTUNEMENT

Beneath and above all else that makes us human is our ability to attune.

Attunement is the ability to sense and feel yourself in relationship to yourself -- or to another without self-forgetting. It is an art of vibrational listening that is only possible through embodiment.

To attune is to “tune with.” Attunement happens in the body as sensations arise in connection with oneself, another person, another being, or a field we are attending to. Attunement is situational, relational, and vibrational. It’s not about thinking. It’s about inhabiting a feeling space that is present and permeable to the content that lives and breathes within any connection.

To attune to a place, a person, an animal, a collective, you must expand the circumference of self to sense and feel a greater whole. The steps of attunement are simple: pause; center in your own body; release ideas and opinions; extend relaxed, attuned presence to the person or being or field you are attending to; receive the other in an open-ended availability to feel and be felt, see and be seen; feel how that lands in your own body, heart, and mind; repeat.

Join me for the June new moon to explore what it truly means and how to be tuned to one's own arising, embodied experience, to the felt sense of other human beings, and to the felt sense of the ecofields we inhabit.

The Rememberings are the basic teachings of EnLifenment from Chapter 6 of True Human: Reimagining Ourselves at the End of Our World. These are ontological teachings—gateways to seeing, knowing, and experiencing ourselves as co-creative participants in Life's Song.

Let's gather not with the intention to get anywhere, but with a gentle-fierce commitment to learn, explore authentic connection, engage in good-faith inquiry, and tend the wild entanglement of our humanity. This is a Life-Centric Sangha (a community of sacred practice) where we practice EnLifenment together.
